Semikarakorsk folk art is a "pearl of Don", its visiting card, the only factory at Don, which make pottery. The art is young, although traditional, because it is based on ancient traditions of potter art of large Cossack village in Semikrakorsk. Archaeological research prove, that pottery growed up naturally at this region everywhere where clay was.
In the Middle Ages (Y111 - begin 1X a.c.) a large village of khazar kaganat was the big center of rude faience manufacture (brick, flat and oval tile, earthenware), which took its place near Sal river in 5 kilometres from Semikarakorsk. Semikarakorsk (on tyurk - big black fortress) took its name from the fortress.
In the second part of 30th folk pottery manufactures, equiped by potter's wheel, created a separate branch - Aksin'ya manufacture, where section of art ceramics was created in 1972. In 1975 the technology of manufactured articles and souvenirs from white faience mass was created. Masters had a success in creating original style - semikarakorsk letter.
Original forms of makes are created by shliker moulding method. Also makes are corrected and turninged by hand. After drying in natural conditions makes are burned twice in stoves. At first kilning faience mass curdles, melts partly, getting the attribute of artificial stone. After kilning the potteries are decorated by hand inventory, are covered by colourless glaze and are kilned again. The colourless glaze fuses together with under-glaze paintings and makes the eternal decoration with tender tonal crosses. The pottery is made by faience-painters. Most of them are the members of Russian Artist Union.
