For many centuries the inhabitants of Kovrovsky district have been engaged in various crafts. The peasants of Velikovskaya area, villages Lezhnevo, Golishevo, Rogozino, Andreevo were engaged in a ceramic craft. Using gray and red clay, they made bricks, utensils, and also clay toys. They used to sell them at markets, fairs and on spring tenders, where the people on celebratory feat was flown down: "Svistunia" or "Svistoplaska" - holiday of spring and god of the Sun Yarilo. There are various versions about existence of Kovrovskaya "svistunya". Any figure - horseman, horse, ram, duck, cow, lady in a hat and a galant in the cylinder - could turn into an amusing shrill whistle. Besides, the entire stories, play-scripts used to be made up and enacted in clay in Kovrovo. Each toy is an alive particle of mass collective creativity, pleasant and popular. In national creativity the art is closely connected to craft. The stronger is the craft basis, the higher is the master's skill, the higher art value represents a man-made product.
